Why I created ACT beyond Perfectionism?

Quite often my clients, friends, or people on social media ask me about how to deal with their fears of failure, self-criticism, unrealistic standards, rumination, procrastination, indecision, worries about not doing enough, guilt about failing others or regret about not completing tasks they wanted to complete.

The pursuit of perfection is a self-reinforcing cycle that impacts many of us; while you may work harder and harder, do more and more and meet those standards for a while, and feel good about them, it’s a matter of time before the fear of failing will emerge.

It’s a matter of time before you spend energy battling self-defeating, and self-critical thoughts.

It's a matter of time before your relationships with others and with yourself will be affected.

How can you find the golden nuggets of perfectionistic, high-achieving, and striving actions without losing yourself and without hurting the ones that matter to you?

Does this sound like you?

  • Do you always feel pressure to do things right and perfectly?
  • Are you often concerned about making mistakes?
  • Do you spend a lot of time making a decision?
  • Do you avoid things you’re not good at?
  • Do you want to start a new hobby but are concerned about messing up?
  • Do you spend hours criticizing yourself because of the mistakes you have made?
  • Are you a go-getter, doer, and maker that pushes harder and harder when it comes to things you care about?
  • Have you been told to let go of your standards but you resent those messages and despite your best efforts you keep working harder and harder because you know that “working hard pays off?”

Imagine if...

  •  You learn to harness the power of perfectionism without losing yourself.
  • You can give your best, work hard, and push yourself without sacrificing your well-being, hurting your relationships, or compromising your health.
  • You have the skills to manage rumination, anxiety, and the stress that comes with being a high-achiever.
  • You live your life according to your values, not according to the pressure to do more and more.
  • You learn to accept yourself as you are, and not as you wish to be.

Yes, I want to use my perfectionistic tendencies to my advantage without letting them ruin my life

What you will learn:

You will learn a "new mindset to harness the power of high-achieving, perfectionist, and striving actions."

Learning a new mindset means :

  • Doing more of what matters - your way - without hurting your relationships or hurting yourself.
  • Speaking up more about what you really think about stuff without betraying yourself in relationships.
  • Finding your rhythm across different areas of your life.
  • Ditching other people’s definition of success, accomplishments, and well-being to pursue your own.
  • Wrestling less with worries, harsh criticisms second-guesses, and overthinking patterns.

About Dr. Z

I’m a psychologist with a doctoral degree and in the last 17 years, I have been providing exposure services to children, teens, and adults who struggle with different forms of fear-based struggles: OCD, phobias, procrastination, worry, perfectionism, panic, and more.

I have been trained in all models of exposure therapy: habituation model, inhibitory learning model, and ACT & ERP.

In addition to my doctoral training, I'm a  graduate of the International OCD Foundation Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) for the treatment of pediatric OCD and adult OCD; my clinical work is primarily based on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the recognized front-line treatment for OCD, anxiety and related condition disorders. I completed a 10-day intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

I'm the founder of the East Bay Behavior Therapy Center, a boutique therapy practice, where I offer therapy, coaching, and focused interventions for anxiety-based struggles, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and contextual-behavioral science.

I'm the author of 6 books, co-author of two, and have been nominated as a Fellow of the Association of Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) for my contributions to the dissemination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to the treatment of particular unworkable behavioral patterns.
